Can't beat it for a weekend away
The staff here are really very good - helpful, cheerful and professional. We had a garden room this time with the loft bed on a top level and it was in excellent shape, very clean, and comfortable. The restaurant offers good food that comes quickly and with a smile. This time there was a foosball table and we played a lot, which was fun though we hope not too annoying for our fellow guests :-) Overall we really like this place and will go back.
The menu in the restaurant might benefit from a refresher as I think it was mainly the same things as when we stayed a year ago, but that's a small thing. The spa treatments I think were the weak point. This was my second time to get a relaxing oil massage (as opposed to a traditional Burmese massage) and I'm afraid that both times I have had the impression that they weren't quite familiar with standard massage technique for that style. To be frank, it was a bit weird - sometimes really soft that it seemed not to get the muscles and sometimes so hard that it was painful. I also got a facial this time, combined in a package, and it was basically a face washing and cucumber masque with a bit of cream at the end. Pleasant enough, but nothing special.

Overall good resort
Overall good resort. The location is on of the best in Ngapali. The staff was great.
The pools looks muddy. The furniture looks old and needs some refreshment. I don't like the resort to have rooms in same price category with sea view and without. For example Deluxe rooms from 701 to 715 are: 701, 702 with sea view, 703-708 with partial sea view, 708 to the end without sea view. SO depends on your luck what you would receive for your money. The restaurant is very expensive, 13$ for burger etc., but there are very good and cheap restaurants nearby.

What was the highlight of Amata Resort & Spa, Ngapali Beach
The best beach I have been so far.
We arrived at 5 in the morning and it is way too early to check-in but somehow the reception lady manage to get us into a room immediately. There's a cute foot washing area just before the entrance to our room, to wash away dirt and sand from our feet. The room is spacious, bed is comfy and super clean. Even comes with a mosquito net but I don't find it necessary if you keep the door closed most of the time. The blinds can be brought up to allow for daylight to enter the room during the day. Decent minibar. Good wifi. Nice big pool with plenty of pool towels. You can rent bicycles or e.bikes - pay by the hour rate, at the stalls outside the resort to explore the nearby villages and seafood restaurants. A lot of lounge chairs at the beach and at the resort to chill at. The beach is perfect - clean, white and sandy, warm waters the whole time (bay of bengal) and gentle waves. Almost empty beach with just a handful of travelers only. The locals at the beach may try to sell you some fruits or even a boat ride to the nearby island but good thing is they are not pushy or persistent about it if you refused them. I took a walk along the beach to the furthest end and discovered that the beach directly in front of the resort is the best so far. No rocky outcrops. Just fine white sands all to the way to the water.
I feel that the in-house restaurant prices are slightly overpriced. It's at least 40% cheaper at the restaurants along the same road outside the resort. The breakfast buffet spread is the same throughout the whole time that I was there.
